Miraflora Farm Achieves Five-Star Soil Health Rating

Our efforts in regenerative agriculture have earned the highest National STAR and Colorado Soil Health Program rating.

In a significant milestone for our USDA-certified organic farm in Boulder County, Colo., the Miraflora Farm has earned a prestigious five-star rating through the National STAR and Colorado Soil Health program. This recognition validates our unwavering commitment to regenerative agricultural practices and soil-health stewardship.

At Miraflora, we've created a thriving ecosystem where diversity is our strength. Our farm produces a variety of crops including hay, lavender, pumpkins, apples, and sunflowers. These plants share our land with chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, bees, alpacas, and our prized Wagyu cattle.

"Our focus is on regenerative, diversified agriculture—everything works in a cycle to support soil health and ecosystem resilience," our chief operating officer, Brent Facchinello, said.

This interconnected approach means each element of our farm contributes to the overall health of the land. Our alpaca, for example, are more than just cute mascots—they provide nutrient-rich fertilizer that enriches the soil where we grow our crops.

The Saving Tomorrow's Agricultural Resources (STAR) evaluation offered us a structured framework to assess our agricultural practices through a soil-health lens. What makes the STAR Tool particularly valuable is that it's not just a scoring system—it's a planning tool that helps us make informed decisions about our land-management practices.

“We’re taking proactive steps to regenerate our soil and improve water retention, biodiversity, and long-term productivity,” Facchinello said.

The culmination of our efforts resulted in the highest possible rating: five stars. This exceptional score reflects our implementation of key regenerative practices, including no-till farming, cover cropping, prescribed rotational grazing, and nutrient management through composted manure.

Soil health is the foundation of our entire farm. The STAR Tool helps us take care of it—so it can take care of us.
